What is the disputed mineral regulation?

The disputed minerals are natural materials that have sociality by being involved in disputes between many powers of certain regions and the U.S. government designated 4 minerals such as gold, tin, tantalum and tungsten etc. that are produced in central African countries such as Congo, Sudan, Rewanda, Uganda, Zambia etc. with frequent conflicts.

After gaining control of the distribution channel of these minerals by a certain power at the conflict regions, they purchase arms with the profits obtained by trades of the minerals to maintain their power and have committed crimes against humanity such as homicide, mining the minerals by mobilizing civilians by force etc.

In case that the disputed minerals are used in the production and manufacturing process of products that are produced on their own or with consignment among companies listed on SEC (The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission), related items shall be reported to SEC.

Policy for Disputed Mineral Regulation

  • UTI will participate in the disputed mineral regulation actively which becomes an issue all around the world.
    • We’ll establish a work process for the disputed minerals to comply with laws by applying international standards that regulate the disputed minerals.
    • We’ll make sure that the policy can be expanded by receiving the declaration of complying with non-use of the disputed minerals from all cooperative companies.
    • We’ll conduct a survey on the status of use of the disputed minerals of all cooperative companies, and check again through a site inspection.
  • We request all cooperative companies to comply with the policy for the disputed mineral management of the company.
    • All cooperative companies shall conduct a survey whether the disputed minerals are used and report it.
    • All cooperative companies shall submit the exact data immediately upon request of data related to the disputed minerals.
    • Trades may be limited in case that cooperative companies submit data that are not correct about the disputed minerals or uncertain supply systems are found.
    • All cooperative companies shall be supplied with 3TG only from smelters that received site inspections by the 3rd independent auditing company.
